Using free sound effects that require credit?

Post by irthlingz » Fri May 29, 2020 4:27 pm

For instance, freesfx.co.uk has in their end user agreement:

Credit Required

You MUST credit freesfx.co.uk if you use our sound effects or music in your project. How you do this is up to you but please make sure that you include our website URL in your credit as follows: http://www.freesfx.co.uk

If your project doesn't have a website or blog associated with it the credit back can be printed on any artwork for your project, added to the final credits for a film, added to your YouTube video description etc.

Would it be a problem to use such fx in a song submitted to TAXI?

Thanks,
Sharon

Firstly , there won't be any way to credit them. If that breaks the terms of their EULA then don't use them.

Secondly , not sure what SFX you are using but if it's Foley type stuff then it's usually not a good idea anyway as you'll most likely make your track unusable for working with picture.

Thirdly there's enough places to get high quality samples from that don't cost much such as Splice where the EULA is suitable for this purpose.

Fourthly, you've no way of knowing if all the samples from the free site are legal. They could be lifted from anywhere, even copyrighted material.

For others who may read this thread, I see in another post that using Splice or similar services is not a good idea when creating for libraries.

It's fine if you use it right. Not fine if you don't. If you just want want it for one off samples like kicks, snares hats to program your own beats with then they can be used without issue. If instead you take a fully produced beat loop or melodic loop and use it unaltered then it's inviting trouble as someone else has probably used it too.

Because libraries will want multiple alt mixes and possibly stems you an't 'hide' the loop within the mix, there will be a mix where it's probably 'in the clear' and thus detectable by audio recognition software as someone else's work.
