Post by lasercookie » Mon Aug 16, 2021 8:33 am

Hello,

Can someone please make a little review of my song : https://soundcloud.com/laser-cookie/vic ... FK8arQH9wV
for the request S210819WN

Is the mix good enough ? Instruments look fake ? Any help will be very appreciate

Thank by advance

Here the listing :

VICTORIOUS, "BIG WINNER" ORCHESTRAL-Based INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a very successful Music Licensing Company that lands placements on hundreds of shows on Major Networks every year!

This Company is on the hunt for Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

The Wall (from 1:49 to 3:27)

The Cube (from 7:56 to 8:34)

American Ninja Warrior (from 6:08 to 6:21)

American Ninja Warrior (from 3:59 to 4:24)

Please send well-produced Orchestral-Based Instrumental Cues that would work well in the context of Reality TV shows when a contestant has just won big! Craft your Cues around a singular motif, and layer instrumentation in and out as they progress to create a sense of forward momentum and dynamics. Please be sure that your production is polished and all virtual Orchestral instrumentation you use are high-quality, modern, and not stiff or obviously MIDI-driven. Some additional sound design or hybrid elements are okay to include in your submissions, but the focus should be on their Orchestral instrumentation.

NOTE: The placements generated from this Company will likely have good royalty payouts on the backend since they would be on Major Network Shows! Sounds great to us!

Your submissions should be about 90 seconds to 2 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This Company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so the material you submit for this request CANNOT be signed with other publishers or catalogs. Sync fees will be split 50/50. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll keep 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Thursday, August 19th, 2021. TAXI # S210819WN
TAXI # S210819WN

The lead instrument sounds pretty MIDI, and the total mix seems to be messy, all instruments occupying the same space somehow and fighting hard to win...

Thank for the feedback, when you talk about space you mean panoramic ? frequencies ? both ?

Thanks - Also good to include the links to the Ref Tracks especially on this sort of thing where they are clips from TV shows - some of them are restricted in my country and can't be viewed but I get the idea

i think there's a decent tune in there somewhere....

First thing that hit me right out the gate was the brass is too fake / midi sounding and it's more noticeable when it's out front by itself

Some of the timing feels a bit off to me, like the brass / drums / strings are not all in sync. This might just be that different instruments that have different onsets and you need to adjust for it even if the midi is exactly lined up.

Bass sounds like a long synth note and I don't think it really helps the track, something with a syncopated rhythm would have probably sounded better.

Choir - I can't quite make it out well enough but it sounds dissonant at times, so check it's all playing harmonically

MIx is somewhat smashed together sounding , there's not really much front / back depth or sense of space.

The other main nitpick is it's a bit too repetitive , and there aren't any edit points - it's just one long continuous track.

I don't mind the actual music , I do think it sounds victorious but the production is letting it down. Timing - tuning - harmonic structure - cue structure - mix and production all need work for me to make it work for TV.

Not too sure about the sounds, whether they are just of a lower quality or it's the mix that's making them sound that way.

On the plus side I've heard much worse so you've got something to work with.

Mark
