REGGAE returns-ouch!

Post by guitaroboe » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:38 am

Hey friends,

all 3 submissions were returned with only the 'Music' box ticked.

Any ideas why I was off the mark will be greatly appreciated. Hit me as hard as you wish!!!!

http://snd.sc/ItmUq8

this was the listing:

REGGAE SONGS and INSTRUMENTALS in the style of Bob Marley and the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Black Uhuru, Peter Tosh, Etc., needed by the Owner of a Worldwide Indie Music Publishing company for use in a variety of Film/TV placements. Your tracks should pulse with the classic Jamaican-born rhythms characteristic of the genre. Keep your production AUTHENTIC-SOUNDING! Organic instruments, dominant rolling bass grooves, dampened off-beat guitar, and various percussive elements are ALL needed for this listing. Minimal horns could work as well. If you are submitting songs, be sure your lyrics are universal. ORIGINAL SONGS ONLY, do not send in cover songs! Vocal and instrumental performances must be top-notch! All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS

Hi Adonis,

just a dude on the streets gut reaction, I like Reggae, lived with my friend for a year and he played it everyday - LOUD haha.
It's in me now

Jamaica plain
At the bottom end it has the juice! but at the top end, keys it's more like jazz/acid jazz ( ?)

Soul Redemtion
Has more of a western electric retro geetar feel ( ?) again a tad more acid jazz

Mellow Rasta Bike

Again, I feel here the geetar melodies are not in style, don't quite know why ...

I feel like Reggae electric is very minimal and right on the bass and drum, almost percussive ( ?)
.. I only guessing from what I've heard

not a knock on the tracks!, they are buzzin!

.. just I was deffo not getting Marley from these like the listing asked

: ( bummer dude, top tunes!

Hope Alborosie joins the forum and gives you some hints better than I could

"Jamaica Plain" was the best song I heard. I am not sure why you were not forwarded for that song. I am sure you can find a home for all three tracks if you shop them around. Don't be afraid to send them out to the premier libraries.

Hi Adonis!

Sedge has pretty much nailed it.

The first and third tracks have a very cool and authentic Reggae vibe but the lead guitar detracts from the sound.

The second one doesn't really work as a Reggae track.

Hey Andonis,

Jamaica Plain
I really like this one.... the lead parts sound a bit close to "Get Up, Stand Up", not sure if that could be an issue. Sonically it seems to be lacking, the other two songs sound like they have a little mastering but this one does not, could be the reason.

Soul Redemption
Not sure the clav is working in it's favor, the more it get's into the song the more it sounds on target.

Mellow Rasta Bike
Out of the three, this one seems most on target. I'm most surprised this one was not forwarded, even with the lead geetar throughout.

Sorry to hear none worked out, all usable tunes.

Best,
Marc

Thats pretty funny! The other day when I looked for a reggae reference, I searched Spotify first, but found mostly classic songs a la the ones the listing asked for or uptempo dance/reggaeton styles. I was looking for something a little more contemporary yet with the tradition in behold, so I listened to your tracks on soundcloud instead..

So, it might just be that yours is a little too contemporary sounding or not retro enough to match the references in the listing. Maybe they were looking for classic/retro timepieces..
