rePete'ing, in part, my comment from SC:

Sounds to me like a classical piano music piece (ala Mozart) with a "modern" lyric and vocal;
that could live well enough apart and alone, but quite nicely and well as a couple. ;)
Nicely done, Mr. G...as usual.
Cheers,

EO, Given the fact that your stuff has moved me to tears on more than one occasion, to have you say something so nice is SUCH a compliment!!!

All the very very best! BTW, have you posted anything lately? I've been swamped with concerts… LOVE to hear something!!??I actually have time :x

Merry Christmas, to you and yours!!! :D :D

Graham

Oh!! I remixed aspects. I tuned the voice just a touch. Separated the electric guit and ambient synth. Added a touch more bottom - i.e., bass.

My god. As I listen again, it ain't the happiest festive ditty, is it...  :(

Any thoughts on mix? Is the voice audible? Too thin? I've been trying to take bottom off as per Andy's suggestion… Don't touch anything, just take bottom off. Love the effect, but maybe too much??

Hey Graham,
great inde vocal man! Right up there near Ethan's, I can see why he likes it.
Love the "can't turn the train around" line", really gets to the heart of the whole song for me.
I'm not the mix guy to give advice, but just wanted to say I like the
song alot.

Cheers,
Steve

Nice one Graham! Margaret and I sat listening to it, and she was writing down the lyrics as it played. It's a beautiful, if sad, song. You really know how to dig deep and grab your listener.

When you mentioned it was about infidelity, I assumed it would be from the perspective of the aggrieved party, but as far as I can tell, it's from the perspective of the adulterer. Very interesting decision! (Unless I'm wrong about that.)

Regarding the mix, I wouldn't mind the voice being a little hotter. We had to strain to hear a couple of lines. And I might have preferred a softer closed hi-hat tap to the pedaled hat, but that's just a subjective thing, and your choice might actually have more character.

Anyway, another gorgeous song from you. I don't know how you do it, but I'm glad you're doing it.

All the best wishes to you and your family over the holidays and coming new year.

Your pal and fan,

Richard

You have a unbelievable way of capturing emotion in your songs. The vocals are a bit pitchy in places but it really works for this song's emotional message.

Real nice work as always. Can hear this in a number of dramas on TV today.

Man oh man Graham! Your track blew me away!!!!
Really strong melody and lyric, loaded with emotion. Dang!

This is just nit-pickin' but I felt that the piano crescendo at 2:25 rushed a bit. Would be cool if it layed back a little.
I liked the mix!

Chapeau!!! my friend!!

once again the gramster delivers! ditto all the above! +1+1+1

two little production ideas...

since your drums are in a big ambient room (what drums are those?), i would wet the vocal just a little. right now a little to present to me. or dry up the drums a touch if you want to keep that vocal right up front.

at the very end, try leaving off 'night', so it ends with 'just one'. (subjective thing, i know)

happy holidays my friend! easy on the egg nog.

that's a beautiful piece of work G.

many of the comments above I see.

the voice is a little telephony for me. I have a feeling that yes you might have taken too much bottom off, but there also might be some midrange ouch that could be reduced a db or 2. 1200Hz? 2300 hz? somewhere in there. sharp cuts.

I like the way that everything hangs together, except the drums. cut some high end on the instrument itself to make more room for the other high elements like the voice. cut additional high end on the drum reverb especially when the hi-hat triggers it. it really competes with the voice.

Remmet's comment about vocal level I second. the overall level is fine. but the level from phrase to phrase is not, you loose some syllables in the last minute, and then the last phrase as the instrumentation dies down is really hot. More detailed vocal automation.

mind the esses too, some manual de-essing in a couple of spots is needed IMO.
