Was wondering how to get this over driven sound?

Post by Billovinmusic » Tue Apr 01, 2014 11:17 pm

If anyone can give me some pointers I'd sure appreciate it! Hope I'm in the right section to be asking this. If not please direct me.
Here's the Youtube link to a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club tune. Wondering if there are VST's to achieve this sound or if I can do it with what I have? Especially the Bass. Working on a song for a listing and can't come close to that big dirty sound.

Thanks, Bill :D :D :D

Hi Bill,

Yes one of the best VST's for this I would recommend: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/pr ... rig-5-pro/

For guitar distortion I've either been using Cubase VST's or my 5w fender tube amp with pedals in front. Guitar Rig Pro is one of the best for guitar VST.

Heh, they sound like Dirty Beatles :D
For this type of over the top sound, I'd also +1 on Guitar Rig, if you go with an amp sim.
On the presets, work with dialing up the input level, and you should find a sweet spot a la this tone.
If you need more complexity and depth in the tone, try putting a pedal or two in the chain on the way in.

Hey Man, If you are using Cubase ( I assuming because you asked for vst) the vst amp rack is awesome. You can choose an amp, cap, and a distortion pedal, then tweak it to your liking. You can also choose mikes and their placement. Not all the bells and whistles of GR 5 but easy to use and sounds good.

Thanks, found the distortion model on my Cubase 7 along with the steinberg amp rack and I'm getting that sound! Thanks again.
