Re-working non-forwarded pieces

I'm new here but am wanting to learn. Have been a member for a little over a year.

I'm curious about how often one re-writes a piece of music that was not forwarded. I see that there are often cycles of requests - and for some compositions I don't think they are ever completely "done." I do have a few that I am re-tooling in the hope that another opportunity to submit will be posted.

I don't think there's any rule of thumb. I'd probably look at the previous critique(s) and see if I think I can and want to address the shortcomings they mentioned. If so, I'd re-write and submit it again when a similar listing comes up.

Persoanally never because I always think I can do better than the last time, so I just write a new track

I would say if you really want that track to succeed then keep rewriting until you get it right. Something to consider might be even switching genres to make it work.

I always re-work my pieces to make them better. Some of the re-worked pieces have subsequently been forwarded, too!

Any way you end up with a marketable piece of music is good, whether it's re-working an old one or starting from scratch. Anything and everything works at different times. No right answer.

I find it is difficult to re-work a song especially when I like it like it is.

It depends on the critique. If you didn't nail the request for "sounds like" the examples given and that was the only comment and the song is strong then re-submit. If there is any constructive criticism like "lyrics could improve", "recording is sub-standard", or any other negative then the song needs to be analyzed and improved upon.
