Dear Songwriters, Artists, Composers, and Producers,
Two of the most articulate executives from the music library industry asked me if they could join me for an episode of TAXI TV. They’ve got insider info they want to share, and they think our TAXI TV audience is the best place to start spreading the love.
I’m not giving out their names in this email because they would get bombarded with “Listen to my music” emails if I do—sorry! Trust me when I tell you that both of these folks are highly experienced, highly regarded, and well-informed execs from a very successful company. Whatever they share you can take to the bank!
Miss this episode at your own peril, as they say. Who ARE “they,” anyway?
Get Your Questions Ready
We’re going to do some live Q&A during this episode, so please get your questions ready in advance. And PLEASE keep them short and pithy!
I’ll be choosing questions from the live Chat Room, so you’ll need to watch the live episode on Monday to have a shot at getting your questions answered.

The audio quality was poor ( again ) too, there was the echo problem initially and then it was hard to hear the female contributor properly - it sounded like she was using a sub-par mic or too far away from it.
Ironic as it's audio enginerring 101

I didn't see the show yet, I'll try to watch it later today. Are we sure he meant ANY samples including the legit VI samples everyone uses? Was this person looking for older, vintage style recordings? It would make sense then.BradleyHagen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 3:55 pmI still cannot believe that the Library Guy said...in 2024....that he flat out refuses anything with samples....Drums, Keys, ANYTHING......
So how is your name pronounced? Since we only see names on the forum and don't hear them, we often don't know. Is it Hay-ggen or Hah-ggen? Or other? Some of my best Taxi friends have names for which we wouldn't be sure how to pronounce based on reading. Dean Krippaehne? Bob Mete? People botch my last name all the time because it's a less common spelling of a common name.
I'll be back after I watch the show later.
Casey

It was pretty bad- I could barely hear the woman's audio (Stephanie? i think?) Look, I am going take this post down because it sounds like alot of whining on my part.....Especially the last name mispronounciation! lolcosmicdolphin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 1:19 amThe audio quality was poor ( again ) too, there was the echo problem initially and then it was hard to hear the female contributor properly - it sounded like she was using a sub-par mic or too far away from it.

HAYGGIN - I should have perhaps left out that bit, I sound kinda whiny lol ! I cant expect Michael to be able to correctly pronounce the last name of every TAXI member! lol (Sorry Michael! lol)Casey H wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 4:53 amI didn't see the show yet, I'll try to watch it later today. But..the episode was pretty bad. Maybe I took it out of context, but a few folks have DM'd me and seem to agree.... He kinda caved a little at the end with a "Well, if you have to do it, just make sure the samples sound real" comment at the very end, but I thought the whole episode to be bizarre and out of touch.

Re: 2 Music Library Execs Spill the Beans on TAXI TV!
I've been watching the show for a while. Great show so far, lots of awesome information! Steph's audio is poor, I'm assuming it was a mic problem on her end. But with headphones, I'm hearing every word even though low and muffled. Not at all ideal, but when I think about the value of the information and discussion vs. that audio issue, I find it hard to get wound up about. That being said, I'm sure that if Micheal has Steph on the show again, they'll get this worked out.
It was clear to me that the "no samples" thing was specific to that particular brief. All you have to do is go back and replay that section of the video. They were talking about a specific brief.

PS I've watched a lot more before I hit submit here. GREAT F**KING SHOW!

Re: 2 Music Library Execs Spill the Beans on TAXI TV!
I was listening to the show for a bit in the car this morning. Yeah, some mysterious audio issues popped up, but they were fixed. Steph's mic / input was low, but you could still hear the information. Bob & Steph from Black Toast are awesome people and killer at landing placements for the music in their catalog. Everything I heard of this episode so far was great. And though I haven't gotten to the part in your question, I can't imagine that statement(s) you're referring to are indicative of their requirements across the board. Probably just specific to a particular listing or style of music. I know I have over a hundred tracks in this company's catalog, and all of them have some type of in-organic element, be it synths, drum one-shots, ambient textures, etc.
But dude, the level of animosity in your original posts last night were incredibly off-putting. At one point, you'd mentioned "not drinking the Taxi Kool-Aid" or something of that nature. I know of at least 5 library owners that I'm personal friends with (some were even invited to my wedding!) who peruse these forums regularly. And those are only the ones I know of. My guess is there are dozens of them that periodically surf these forums to get a feel for people and how they act. I know in the past you've mentioned not receiving any responses from your Taxi forwards. Maybe, just maybe, it's because the library owners have run across posts like this one, saw your name, cross-referenced it with your forwarded music, and said "nope" on general principle. These axe-grinding type of posts do more to harm your character than any feeling of vindication you might get from posting them. Food for thought.

Definitely thinking about this one Matt, thanks for being candid!!VanderBoegh wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 1:00 pmI was listening to the show for a bit in the car this morning.
