I'm new to Taxi - and Introducing Myself

Hi, I read Vikki's post, so I figured I'd heed her suggestion.
I am a lyricist and wannna be singer/songwriter/composer. The few original songs I've done from start to finish and submitted to listings have been returned, but I have had one forward (yay!) of a song I wrote the lyrics for and a friend of mine composed and produced.
I am in awe of people who play multiple instruments (I have just surpassed mastery of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Hot Cross Buns on piano), but I love to learn so I know I'll improve.
I am having difficulty trying to fit myself into one genre so I can get really good at that one genre, so I am mastery of none.
I write lyrics for male and female singers in pop, R&B, country, and AC, contemporary jazz, as well as Americana and Christian. I am also an inspirational/motivational writer.
I am looking to learn, soak up knowledge, share my knowledge, collaborate, have fun, and make some great music.
I'm going to my first road rally, I'm nervous as heck, so PLEASE come up and say hi! I would love to meet you.

Thanks for reading, posting and sharing your experience.

Welcome Lorraine, I'm sure you will enjoy it here. There are some very knowledgable folk who are very generous with their time.

You've gotta watch it though, one can loiter longer than intended some times.

Welcome to Taxi and the forums Lorraine.
my advice is to start by carefully reading the listings, and have a critical listening to the references given.
try yourself in whatever style suits you. nobody said that you have to get into one single style, but on the other hand, if you find yourself in one, don't hesitate to dig deep.
The satisfaction you get is similar to magic.. I guess it is magic.
so enjoy the ride, and have fun making music

Thanks Edmond, good advice about critical listening to the references. Yes! It is magic to compose something and it sound like what I'm striving for, it's only happened once, but I know with practice . . . and the great feedback and tips from all of you . . . it'll happen again.

Hi Russell, yes, input and a different perspective helps me see a broader view - I love it!
