James Brown's drummer has passed away. He was the most sampled drummer in history. So far.

I met Clyde at my sister's wedding outside of Madison, WI. She was friends with Clyde, and played with him occasionally. So she asked him to play at the wedding reception! I didn't know who the drummer was beforehand, but when they kicked into a James Brown song, I was thinking "Man, this guy is REALLY good!" So during a break, a friend and I went and talked with him. That's when we found out that he was THE Clyde Stubblefield, the "funky drummer" of fame. It was like a dream come true to see him play for 4 sets. I don't know who played with Clyde that day, but they were all really fine musicians, too. I even got to jam with the band on guitar for one number. Wow! What a memory...

I have heard many many stories of people playing or being in Madison and seeing CS. Like so many great musicians, he was modest and unassuming. RIP
