We just started binge-watching reruns of "Twin Peaks," and that theme is so haunting in its simplicity. But what I didn't realize watching this the second time around is all the other music that Badalamenti wrote for the show. My original impression was that he had "one string to his violin," but this time I was astonished in how accomplished he is as a composer. Sure, he weaves that theme in and out, but it's all the other music that I missed on the first watch, probably because visually it's so amazing that it slipped by me! And, of course, how bizarre the whole show is (and FUNNY, like Lynch is laughing at/with the audience). Great TV, something you'll NEVER see again on network television...

I loved that show; so engrossing, so ultimately pointless. I'm also a fan of Lynch's movies, but Badalamente's music was probably as responsible as the visuals for the engrossing aspect of Lynchs' work. So great the music at setting a scene, yet so awful the writing at resolving a plotline, yet the visuals were at least as evocative as the music. It's a little annoying, seeing it 'keyholed' on Showtime, but that's how it originally ran. I guess the upshot is that art doesn't always have to make sense.
