Introducing myself... My name is Rachel. I'm a singer in CT (Fairfield County). I've been a musician all my life. I started playing piano when I was 5, have worked as an accompanist. Currently I mostly make money from teaching piano. I wanted to pursue singing professionally when I was younger but did not. I am back into now though, will be gigging soon. I am also pursuing songwriting. I've studied with Pat Pattison who teaches at Berklee a bit (online and his Master Class in NYC a while back.) I have a bunch of songs written, nothing recorded yet but I'm working on it. As writing music is fairly easy for me, I am joining Taxi to explore making money with writing music, cues (I don't totally understand what those are yet but I have a hunch I know what they are) and possibly getting my songs licensed as well. I really love songwriting and I hope to learn from these forums about how one makes a living writing music/songs. Depending what I find here, I will join Taxi officially at some point. I've heard great things about it, including the Rally :)

Anyone else here from CT/Fairfield County?

Rachel

Hi Rachel:

Welcome to the forums. It's an amazing portal into the Taxi community. Be sure and watch Taxi TV. You'll find a lot of great information there.

Welcome to the forums, Rachel. Check out TAXI TV and get to the Road Rally if you can! It's an amazing experience. The Peer Review forum is also a great place to get feedback on your work/work-in-progress. Looking forward to hearing your music!

Thanks, everyone. Took a quick listen to some of your tracks, very nice! I hope to have things posted soon but I have a lot on my plate just with getting the gigging going.

Anna, have you had any success selling your piano pieces via Taxi?

Over the last 6 months I've had 22 piano tracks forwarded to publishers. No direct bites yet, but I have signed with a couple of libraries through TAXI (through forwards of a different genre) and will be able to submit my piano tracks directly there!

Welcome Rachel!

I used to live in Fairfield before moving out to Litchfield. Unfortunately I'm back in NJ now.

I loved CT while I was there.

Welcome to TAXI and to the Forum, Rachel!

I grew up in West Hartford, CT, but I'm out in San Francisco now, so not much use to you :) I know there are a few active TAXI members from CT, but I think they appear more on Facebook and through their Soundcloud accounts these days. Once you make some contacts here and at the Road Rally (which you should definitely attend if possible) it becomes easier to find people on those sites.

Looking forward to hearing your music!

-Bill

Thanks, Bill. Can you - and anyone else reading - tell me the benefits of the Road Rally? I'm really just starting out. I've got about 15 songs written. I didn't write them for commercial use. I get very good feedback on most of them when I play them out, so who knows. But other than that, I'm really quite the novice. And I'm also an expensive plane ride away from CA. So what would be the benefit in me attending?

Thanks again!
