The Magical Confines of the Recording Studio

I'm recording a ballad I've penned tomorrow. I get really psyched when I'm about to enter a recording studio. I'm like a baseball pitcher working on a no-hitter...nobody is allowed to talk to me. It's almost like preparing for a heavyweight tilt, except it's me against myself.

If I can pull off what is in my head on to tape, I'll share it with you guys and gals in the Peer to Peer section over the upcoming days. :)

Cheers!

Pat

Dang!

I just laid down two tracks and I'm very disappointed. My ballad just lies there like a corpse needing resuscitation...and my lullaby wasn't mixed properly. The guitar is drowning out the vocal.

I'm simply too embarrassed to post either of these songs. I'm getting older as well, and the voice ain't what it used to be.

Okay,,,

Here is the ballad. It's pretty lame in this form, but I still think it has some potential if placed in the right hands.

Falling to Pieces

I touched the droplets on the pane
You always loved it when it rained
I crossed the hallway once again
And took your picture from the frame

Slowly change, hit the lights
Crawl into bed, hold on tight
And dream about you...without you

I'm falling to pieces, what went wrong I don't know
I'm falling to pieces, finding it hard to let go.

We wrote the last page of our lives
All those words we couldn't hide
So it's the end, it's goodbye
But you can't say we didn't try

Maybe things went too far
And I was no saint, but you played hard
I think about you...without you

I'm falling to pieces, what went wrong I don't know
I'm falling to pieces, with a love like this
I thought I could never say never
I guess you just never know

In hindsight, I should have titled this thread "The Magical Confines of the Outhouse"...because that's exactly how my track sounds...like it was recorded in somebody's backyard can!

Hey! Things are looking up!

I've got 2 followers for the ballad I just posted on Soundcloud! One of the gals is named Elizabeth Pace, and the other is a hooker who wants to have sex with me!

Hey Patrick,

Your little 'outhouse' song is great!!!
Very genuine....... and sometimes....that is more important anything else.

ttully,

Aww....thank you so much! The problem is it was written for a female lead and I just found it too high for me to sing. My musical skills are also lacking. But like I said, I still believe "Falling to Pieces" has potential if someone more gifted than me can give it a try.

I appreciate your comment. I'm quite often my own worst critic (as I should be)...but yeah...your compliment has been duly noted! :)

This song has a John Lennon....Radiohead vibe...
The vocals are what makes it great....with the guitar changes....perfect.

Female vox do not seem right to me....

Just leave it as it is!!!!

Of course my 2 cents,
Tim

I'm astounded at your ear ttully...

Like you just said, the chord progression I've always felt was like Radiohead's 'Creep'....and perhaps I'm sounding vocally a little like Lennon or Roy Orbison...after their best before date mind you. :)

Hmmm...

My 15 year old daughter has a killer ear, and when I played her this track she sighed and said, "Not very good, Daddy"

OUCH!! :o

(On the upside though, I'm thinking of adopting ttully!
