A question regarding "PRO" and exclusive deals.

Hi there!!
I just joined the Taxi community, and I have a question that hopefully you guys know more than me about!
I was wondering if you could register your songs with a PRO, for example BMI or ASCAP and still submit those for a listing. Are these things related? or registering the songs to one of those PRO's is something you shouldn't do if you want to submit them to a listing. Hope my question is not too confusing!
