CineStrings vs. Cinematic Studio Strings

Hello all. With all the high quality sample libraries out there, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with both CineStrings and Cinematic Studio Strings. If so, what are the good and not so good aspects of the libraries? Is there one you would suggest over the other? Any thoughts about the libraries would be appreciated. Thanks in advance - Rick.

Hi Rick,
I can't say i've had much experience with Cinesamples, but i've used regularly the CSS strings and found both the Ensemble and Solo libraries to be pretty great. Not massively complicated like some libraries can be, but the articulations and particularly legato features seem pretty spot on (in my humble opinion). The different mic options sound nice too. I've used them with an expressive-e touche controller, controlling expression and vibrato and - although i'm no
real stringed-instrument player - they sound pretty realistic.
Again, I can't really compare it to Cinesamples, but I have found with a lot of string libraries often the articulations are poor or weak / sound unrealistic, and some don't nail the sample phasing. I'm not sure the latter is prevalent in most of the bigger libraries - or wether its just my ears :/ - and i cant say i've found a phase problem with the CSS strings.
Really what wins the CSS strings for me are the legatos and the some of the mic sounds, you can get some big sweeping overtly romanticised transitions from them but also some quite intimate / subtle sounds too.... which i then destroy with my terrible production skills
Hope this helps.
Pete.

Hey Pete,
Thanks for the response! I appreciate your comments - especially about the phase issues. I’ve noticed that at times with different sample libraries. The interface for CSS looks like it would be easy to work with as well. I use some CineSample products but not CineStrings, so I’m just trying to get some comparative notes. Your’s have helped - thanks!!
