Ouch....learn from my mistake !

I decided to post this here in hope that maybe it will help someone else ( IF there is someone else as dumb as me lol)

I had a return for the Instrumental Funk listing and the sole reason for this return was that it was too short (75 secs). Usually I find it hard to write on the shorter side but for some reason this one came out that way. Now, my mistake was that I thought 75 secs might be in the "give or take" region but it clearly isn't - 15 secs short are too short - It could have been my 2nd forward this month after being away for a while so I don't know what the heck was I thinking (I was sick with Covid to my defense :D ) but anyway - moral of the story - if anyone reading this is in the middle of wrapping up a track and has a tiny suspicion that it might not fit the time frame don't be dumb like me ;)

Hope at least some of you can enjoy the track (all 75 seconds of it :) ) before it starts to gather some digital dust.

I've found it's very unpredictable regarding the "give or take" depending on the client and the screener. 15 seconds doesn't seem like a deal stopper to me if they didn't specify a 90 second minimum and "give or take" does say it's not exact. Is 15 seconds too far off? Hard to say. We don't always know what the client told Taxi about their requirements. But you are right, in the absence of other information, probably best not to push it past around 5 seconds or so. Even better make it 90 on the nose.

At least you know you have a good cue!

Best,
:D Casey

I eventually learned to go with making my tunes slightly longer (but no more than 5 sec longer), as it is easier for music editors to shave off rather than add up to a shorter tune

Will not be risking it again that's for sure:)
Yes looking on the positive side at least I now have a good funk template in my DAW waiting for the next opportunity!
Thanks

Good Point actually Marco.
Well, all of these returns are lessons learned and hopefully someone reading this might think twice before submitting a shorter cue.

Rgds,

I feel like this could be a Seinfeld episode. Jerry is confused about it and asks George, "How many seconds is 'give or take' "? George comes back immediately with "7 seconds"!!

Someone else just sent me a Seinfeld clip.. such a good show!
But yeah I have had the too short return as well.. shorter than requested is almost an automatic return, from what I've been told, and a little over should be within 10 seconds over, as close as possible like Marco said. But there's always exceptions.
That funk track is great Owen! Like I said before, you did a really good job with that one and am still a little surprised that it got returned.
Take care,
Erik

lol Casey it could fit for sure (maybe with the funk track in the background as well:P)
In the card's case the give or take is 3 years or more safely NEVER (at least with my wife lol) - not unless I want to start a war:)
P.S watching this makes me want to binge watch the whole 9 seasons again but I've got 2 deadlines waiting so that will have to wait :)

take care
