It's always been as much about the political landscape as the music

ESC is not so much about music. I watch it since I was a kid (a long time ago). These Days it falls und the category "Comedy" for us. We drink a german "Eierlikör" every time something super silly has been said or happened. Takes a while to get sober after the ESC. :-)

I come from the Live world, and its pretty much a joke all the way around. They fudge the numbers. Most of the time we see pics from people on production and theres cardboard cutouts, some artists are completely with a track, some are live, theres fake crowd noise pumped in (pre covid too). Pretty much every year around eurovision the production groups turn into a meme gold mine. I wouldn't doubt that they are biased, and it's rigged one bit. and possibly allowing some of the artists they favor to use tracks, while forcing others to perform live.

Kind of like "The russian judge" story from the olympics some years back.
