Hi all,
hope you're all going well,
was going through the listing and saw one that was in essence a pop tune with a middle eastern flavor, it said to use traditional instruments such as a tar, a saz, bansuri oud etc.
I'm probably not there yet but would eventually like to get into this genre, I think it could be a good niche to master.
Would they expect organic instruments. If not, can you buy a pack of virtual sounds in this genre from someone like East West.
does anyone know?

I saw one in dispatch for Epic Orchestral with Middle Eastern flavor. I'm going to submit to that. Was a little concerned because the examples didn't have much orchestra in them but one. One of them has a little orchestra percussion. I didn't want to write to the traditional "make sure that what you submit sounds like the 4th example" BECAUSE the brief explains about what they want. In this case, I'm going to avoid writing the 4th example because I think it will be returned as off target if I do.
You next question about the packs... I'm going to use Native Instruments' "Middle East", "West Africa", and several of their orchestral banks. I'm also going to rewatch a few Marc Jovani videos on orchestration and audio.
I've been stick on EDM for too long, but I have had success in this genre in the past. I think I'll try to get back into it.

I have used both of those libraries from NI in the past for these kind of listings and have had both forwards and placements with them. If well played, you can get some great results from them.
Just a little encouragement for you. Good luck.

I just got the EastWest pack "RA" which had a few quality instruments and some great articulations. I used that mostly for the cues I submitted for the Middle Eastern flavored requests.

I've done the following for a couple of Middle Eastern listings (ambient and Hip Hop): I hired someone on Fiverr and asked him to play 2 minutes of Oud and Saz improv in the key I wanted. I paid him well because he did an awesome job, and then I used it to produce a total of 5 tracks by cutting and pasting his performance: 2 Hip Hop tracks and 3 ambient. All 5 were forwarded.
I supplemented the live takes with a few virtual instruments, but I quite liked that approach because it gave a very natural and organic feel to the tracks, and also it supported a fellow musician.

Hubert, I have thought about doing that as well. A good approach to tackling the authentic issue. Maybe I will on the next go around. Just make sure you get the WFH release.

That seems to be the way to go. All of my submissions got returned. You definitely have the right idea! Congrats!

Also, found out that 9 seconds over the minimal time duration requested is still too short. The briefing said, "definitely no shorter than 2 minutes and 30 seconds." Screener said that it "needs to be longer." Mine was at 2:39. This is new to me. How many seconds past the minimal time duration asked is enough?

That sounds like a headscreener@ question to me!
