Has soundcloud really become the "NO GO" platform for exchanging and showing your work in the sync world? A very esteemed composer said:"If you want to make sure your email lands unread in the trash, attach a soundcloud file to it!!!.

Thanks for your opinion about that!

I still use SoundCloud. Sure, it's filled with bots and nonsense, but it's a good way to store, share, and embed links. Granted, I don't send links out all that often, but when I DO, I use SoundCloud and haven't had it bite me in the @$$. It's easy to click the play button and listen - what's so wrong with that? Not sure why someone would say it's a red flag, but to each their own.

Thanks, Matt

I was getting insecure since I heard that several times in one day. But I guess if I'm on a paid subscription with SC I should be on the safe side!

BTW: The problem is obviously that some links generate ads!

Hi Chris.
From an old guy on a limited budget - platforms that are FREE to use, like the 3-hours MAX upload version of Soundcloud (jokingly known as 'Soundcrowd' or 'Soundclown')
are workable means for sharing works. If you want to include an apology or disclaimer for unwanted extras or ad - you can do that.
disco seems to have become the preferred platform (at least for Road Rally pitches)... BUT - being able to post stuff right in the forums directly from Soundcloud
is something I like to use. LIKE THE COLLAB EXAMPLE HERE: :D

Of course - YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.

Soundcloud downsides are: Songs get pirated all over the internet. You can make a song private (only available if someone sends out the link) but private songs won't play on smart phones. Pain in the rear. Also, unless you upgrade to a certain level, those that play your songs, may have to sit through ads. Be careful about that- a good way to annoy an A&R person. And finally, the sound quality is not that great. Their conversion to streaming degrades it a lot.

I still have my SC account but, like many, have switched to Disco https://www.disco.ac/ for sharing links. It' s become the industry standard for most A&R folks. It's completely private in that your songs won't show up in any Google search. The sound quality is perfect in that whatever you upload (mp3, wav, etc.) is exactly what the listener hears. Making playlists, adding lyrics, tags, etc. is all easy too. As you get more and more into this business, you'll find libraries and supervisors preferring Disco links.

I would NEVER want to send a library exec or music sup a link that requires them to sit through ads. That's a great way to ensure they don't listen to your song.
People post disco links on the forum all the time. The fancy embedded thing is not at all required. In fact, I personally find it overkill and cumbersome. (JMHO)

Another thing to consider: SC will play the next track they have decided is similar to the one you linked, so there is a risk that if somebody hits Play and for some reason walks away and comes back after your song has finished playing, then they will listen to the next one in the queue SC automatically creates

Also on the free version the checkbox to not allow download is an illusion, any kid with hacking skills can download your tracks. I have been using Disco and have it linked to my website, it's great. I still have my Soundcloud but don't really use it to share to libraries. Also the spam in the emails in SC that they are interested in signing me to their record label is driving me crazy.
