My first year with TAXi Review

Why I have decided NOT to renew my TAXi membership.

Because I am a black woman :-)

I'm not African American.

I'm born in Britain of Ghanaian parents (ASHANTI TRIBE)

My cultural heritage and my love of hip-hop always makes me gravitate to white people. Especially old white men. I always find I have more in common with them so when I saw who the owner of taxi.com was, I chuckled, it's pretty on brand for me to feel safe around an old white man.

But as usual, it always goes wrong.

This is because no matter how big the old white man's heart is and no matter how global he thinks, the young white men AND THE WHITE WOMEN tend to insist on things staying the same. And as sooooon as his back is turned, I am attacked or abandoned or disregarded.

Should I give you an example?

Check out this post.

See all the thank yous... wesoundasone never thanked me. Do you see my name on the list?

He didn't thank the black African woman who introduced him to taxi.com.

I actually gave him my email and password so he could submit his first song...he had never heard of taxi.com. But in the list of thank yous in his reviews, the black woman didn't come to mind. Or maybe I did but he thought it not important to include me. Who knows?
Andre why do you think you forgot me?

Anyways, personal producer friend aside, there's actually the experience of being on taxi.
It's been wonderful. I loved it.

I moved from UK, to Ghana and then to Lagos, Nigeria to go to music school and I learnt that the music industry started in America. I can see it from my experience with Taxi.com. I have become such a better songwriter and disciplined artist. I also lol the way I have been introduced to different styles of music and given professional industry insight to what high standards are expected of me. I am suuuuch a better rapper, singer and songwriter than I was a year ago. And I love the critiques. I have agreed with all of them. Especially the ones I don't agree with looool. Because, whatever, it still made me better in some way that I can't explain.

I have had no 'success' per se, I think I had 2 forwards in all. But I didnt submit that much either. I think it's like 3 out of 11..which is pretty dope ratio wise right?

They were great confidence boosters as well. To see that green ACCEPTED button aahahaha.

One of the songs was a collab with wesoundasone and we did a 60's cover, I loooooooove 60's pop music. I was so touched when it was forwarded because the technical quality wasn't up to our usual standard but we naaaaailedddd it. It got forwarded. It made me realise that yeeeaaahhhh I know my shit!!!!!!

Anyways back to why all white people must die, where was I?

Oh yes, American Music Industry.

My point is, right now you guys are basking in the former glory of the American world dominance that you guys once had. That has kept you stuck in a false state of nostalgic business practices. You think you know what you're doing. So everything has to be the American way. I agree with you to a certain extent...but unfortunately there's something called the internet. And if you want a GLOBAL audience, you have to consider global culture in how you operate.

OR

Ignore me.

I am a black woman afterall.

You can keep things the same, but YOU [American Music Industry] will just be frustrated...and broke. with a capital b. Broke.

I have greeeeeatly benefited from being a member, it's the best decision I ever made for my music career, but in the end I drew the same conclusion I usually do when I am in a place where they are the majority, I should leave.
So I will just take all the wisdom and knowledge from the old white man and put it into practice it elsewhere.

"Where the spirit of God is there is Liberty"
2 Corinthians 3:17

I don't feel the liberty anymore here. I'll go where I'm loved, oooooooh or maybe set up my own? Taxi the WAKANDA version wwwoooooooooooooooo!!!!

Ready for some competition? hehe

God Bless

Brobè out da building!!!!!!

I find your comment about Andre not thanking you to be absurd. In that post you linked to, he was mentioning folks who have spent a lot of time on this forum, helping others. You have made 9 posts on this forum, including this one. Look at some of the other numbers. There was no personal affront to you, racial or otherwise.
I’ve also gained so much insight from reading the forums, learning from contributors written by “seniors” members like Cosmicdolphin, Casey, Telefunkin, Matt V, minoruchan and many others, and also watching Taxi TV on YT.
I have so many successful Taxi friends of various races and who come from countries all over the world. It's about the music, nothing more & nothing less.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do.

Casey

With my luck, I'll get that big featured song in a major movie the day after I die!
