How Do You Tally Output?

I was reviewing some Road Rally notes and noticed lots of discussion about the number of songs we create. I found it all quite motivating, but it left me curious.

Let's say you write an instrumental cue, and then create a 60- and 30-second version. For your own records, do you count that as one song or three? I know it doesn't really matter but I was just curious.

No just one...I don't know anyone personally who would count it as more than one.

So I do 80-100 cues per year normally, but if I included all the different versions and stems I have to deliver to the library it would be more like 800 - 1,000 audio files

Yeah that would be just one cue. But also, I wouldn't recommend creating the alt versions until that track has been signed. Some publishers don't ask for edits, and some may only want a 30 sec or 60 sec edit. You could be working harder than you have to be.
