Hello! I'm Fergus. I live in York in the UK. I've been a Taxi member for about 3 months and I've been lurking on these boards for about 6 months. I watched the latest Taxi TV broadcast (these are fantastic btw) and Jeff Greenleaf convinced me that it's time to introduce myself.
I've been writing songs since high school, mostly for bands I've been in. I used to want to do the whole band -> glory thing, but the older I got the more I grew to love the writing/recording side and hate the playing gigs side. So I stopped being in bands a few years ago and started "just" writing (with no particular purpose in mind). And then I found out about Taxi from John Braheny's book. From what I've seen so far, I think Taxi is amazing. The TV show is the icing on the cake. And this forum is fantastic - I have already benefited greatly from some of the knowledge here and I hope I can be as helpful in the contributions I make.
My genre is somewhere around pop and adult contemporary. I'm still trying to pin it down. I've been so used to writing whatever I want that I've pretty much created my own genre and now I'm stuck in it (but I'm trying to get out of it). My favourite songwriters are people like Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, Laura Nyro and Brian Wilson. Having said that, these days I pretty much only listen to contemporary pop and whatever my target Taxi listings cite.
Thanks for reading!
