just wanting to know why you think the song didn't make it for a recent tribute to a lot of classic rock songs
COVERS OF CLASSIC ROCK SONGS - VOCALS AND INSTRUMENTALS are needed by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV series. They’re looking for covers of songs that pay homage to classic artists such as The Beatles, the Kinks, Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, the Who, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Crosby Stills & Nash, Cream, etc. The supervisor has asked that you do not send in covers by Neil Young, U2 or Van Morrison, as these artists tunes are not easy to license. She wants to hear unique twists on the classics, so please don’t submit exact sound-alikes. Male or female vocals are OK and all tempos are fine. We recently ran this as listing #Y100412CR, so if you submitted to that listing, please send in new material this time around. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Excellent performances are absolutely essential. Please submit one to three songs and/or Instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics (when applicable.) A link to your "Blackbird" cover would be helpful, here, along with the listing you submitted to, and in most cases, the lyrics. (we normally do this sort of thing in Peer To Peer, FYI)

I found a link in your intro post, and assuming you submitted for the classic rock covers listing that allowed re-imagining the arrangements/genre, I'd say you were probably pretty near the bar, but maybe your reharmonization was a little too avante-garde, or maybe too jazzy. (re-imagined or not, it was a classic rock listing) It's also possible they downgraded you based on the sound quality, which I'd characterize as durn good, but maybe not quite polished enough. I actually think natural, uncompressed sounds are refreshing compared to the slick, airtight stuff so common, these days. The vocal was a bit dry and forward; could've sat better in the track, and the drums were kinda distant, like an old Blue Note record. Could be it didn't sound modern enough. Whatever, I really enjoyed it, and I think you might improve it by developing it further; perhaps add a another section to the middle with a more clearly defined backbeat rhythm. Keep or sweep.
