Help with Song Classification

As is well-known, the holiday season is crowded with music, but there is a striking absence of music for New Year’s Eve. The only decent New Year’s Eve music is Frank Loesser’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve.” This is clearly one holiday music niche not nailed down by Irving Berlin – he did try with “Let’s Start the New Year Right,” and Andrew Lloyd Weber also tried with “A Perfect Year” in Sunset Boulevard – both of which never caught on.

I am a newcomer to Taxi, and not a professional songwriter (I practice and teach psychiatry in downtown Washington, DC). I need help in placing my romantic ballad, “Alone Again on New Year’s Eve,” in the proper category. Taxi personnel themselves are not sure where to place it – there is no category for holiday music. Closest is “Christmas Music,” or “Hard to Classify.”

Would appreciate any help you can give me. My New Year's Eve song is on my Taxi page, at the link below.

Hello Jacob, it sounds like Frank Sinatra Big band jazz to me, or broadway. I think jazz will probably work the best. Holiday might be the subject but not the style. I wouldn't list anything under hard to classify, that's too much like a garbage can. Sounds nice to me and doesn't sound like a song you could only listen to on the holiday's.

I can name at least one more; Same Auld Lang Syne, by the late songwriting master, Dan Fogelberg. I would file under Holiday Music. Off-topic, but could you maybe tell me why my Republican party went nuts? It seems you have the necessary education and happen to be standing in the right spot. :D

How weird is this!?....I have had the same idea on my 'titles-to-do-list' for over a year now, (more like two) and just last week I started writing it, together with my co-writer! :o 8-)

Like you, I can't believe there aren't more songs for New Year!.....I do know one more though, which is THE BIGGEST HIT....at least here in the Nordics, where I live: ABBA's "Happy New Year" ....get's played ALL THE TIME (argh!!!)....well around New Year that is!

LOVE your song!!!....Sounds like something from an old musical / a broadway show....I really like that!!! (mine is not going to be competition!...but another style). ;)

I just 'stumbled' over this site, naming 10 New Year songs: http://festivals.iloveindia.com/new-yea ... songs.html - I can't say I know them all though....and they don't even mention the ABBA song (which is weird to me!!) :o

Btw my new New Year song was recorded last week in Nashville.....and it turned out to be a Samba!
Nashville and Samba!?....THAT was a new combination for sure!
