I need to join an mp3 (music) hosting website. I am using Taxi's page for listings I submit to. Just curiouser what everyone else is using and why?

I like www.soundclick.com easy graphical interface, straightforward file upload/download, ease in editing and updating of older versions of your songs, hardly is ever down for maintenance etc.

I use reverbnation. Used it for a while. It fits nicely into my website too and I've had very few problems with it.

Soundcloud for me. It integrates neatly with my website and is very useful for collaborative projects. It's great for creating sets. I send the set links to publishers I want to connect with, so they can hear the tracks aimed at them and not have to wade through other material. It's been fruitful for that purpose.

another vote for Soundcloud. It's a great service, and you it works html5 audio - not just flash.

ReverbNation is good because it has promotion tools and it's widgets such as playlists are pretty easy to attach to a website. Plus it has tracking of plays so you can see who is listening where. The downside is that it isn't iOS friendly because it uses Flash.

SoundCloud is iOS friendly and folks can make comments right on the timeline, which is basically a cute waveform display. I'm not as familiar with soundcloud's promotional setup.

Both make it easy to send a link to the music for other folks to hear and they are both social media friendly, which is a big deal these days.

I use both.

I've heard rumblings that music supervisors prefer services like box.net over things like soundcloud and ReverbNation. I think because it's no frills and easy to just simply download the file. I've not looked into it yet, although I use dropbox for collaboration.

If all you want is to host mp3s, I think SoundCloud is the best because it works with iOS as well. More and more I use my iPhone and iPad to access the Internet and so if I can access my music and your music easily on them, I'm more likely to listen..

I use Reverbnation and Soundcloud. I like Reverbnation because it guides you through all the marketing chores. Soundcloud because of ease of hosting.

Thanks for the quick replies. I forgot to say that I do have two songs up loaded to SoundCloud and found it easy to do. But before I upload about 20 of my songs to any hosting site I wanted to find out what other Taxi members are using.

Soundcloud for me; Reverbnation recently bumped their streaming sound quality downward in a response to growth. (bad idea, imo) Soundclick has one very nice feature that may not matter to you, their player can actually be used over dialup connections without too much latency, which is helpful for folks in areas with limited broadband access. Furthermore, Soundcloud has more flexible options as to sizes and types of files, though sending large files (such as WAV) to specific individuals/clients may be better handled by Dropbox or an equivalent. Nearly all the music hosting sites allow downloading at the uploaded bit rate/quality.

another to deffo look at is Bandcamp, is my fav from checking them a lot out - http://www.bandcamp.com and is used by many

- Same technology as soundcloud (html5 or flash if non supported html5)
- Upload a good quality wav, bandcamp convert for you (great encoders) streams out in the highest quality mp3 I have found anywhere for free.
- keep your master wav central, make the mp3s from that
- Allow visitors to buy (just give bandcamp your paypal address in the setup) or download free (ask for donation) in formats they choose / or just have it stream.
- ISRC coding or enter one if you already have it on another store
- Basic but great clean page customisation ( no bandcamp logo ect) - good example - http://junioreatsalone.bandcamp.com/alb ... hout-trees
- (Sharing) Links posted to your mp3 play instant (no leaving facebook etc , plays inline)
- Get a great free url (yourname.bandcamp.com) or point your own to it.
- organise tracks into collections/albums each with a direct link
- download whole digital album


I just love it, no frills, you can set your own quality and customers can too. Is where I plan to stick all my finals

downside, no social network with other musos if that is what you want to.
For that I agree soundcloud is brill and has a few more features
