Favorite Cover Song Artist?
What is your favorite artist's rendition of a cover song? Mine is Eva Cassidy's version of:Over the Rainbow
GA_googleFillSlot("336x280_ROS");
and her version of :Autumn Leaves
GA_googleFillSlot("336x280_2_ROS");
and Harry Connick Jr.'s version of "The Bare Necessities" from "Simply Mad About the Mouse" (a collection of Disney songs done by artists from the 1990s):I like it when artists take songs to a very different place than the original song was. Suz

There was a post the other day about Joe Cocker singing "With a little help from my friends". I love his version more than The Beatles', I just dont like watching him sing it!

For me, probably Led Zeppelin. They ripped off so many blues songs from the old great artists, an' didn't give 'em credit!But after lawsuits, they still made millions of $$.They always denied they stole stuff, but I dunno --- Ern

I like that bluegrass version of Gin and Juice, reported to be Phish but my son told me it's someone else doing it.

Re: Favorite Cover Song Artist?
Hey Suz,Great thread!I'm not normally impressed by covers compared tooriginals, but Eva Cassidy's "Over the Rainbow" is absolutely beautiful! What a terrible loss at just 33.I don't prefer Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from my Friends" toThe Beatles version, but it is excellent.At the opposite end of the spectrum, I think Wet Wet Wet's versionabsolutely murders the song!The Beatles themselves did some GREAT covers: "Money" and "Twist and Shout" being terrific Lennon performances.
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

While we're on Eva Cassidy covers, Fields of Gold is pretty good. </understatement>. Though I personslly prefer Israel Kawaokalokalokowiwo's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow... That truly takes the song elsewhere IMO.Cocker's version of With a Little Help is massive. LOL re not liking to see it
