http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7766683.stmOne of the riffs in the track is very similar to the 'when I ruled the world' hook, for sure. In fact, the same to my ears. Dunno if that makes it plagiarism The hooks're here:

Thanks, Moje One of the things that strikes me is that in the Satriani piece the motif well... isn't one. It appears a couple of times amongst a number of 'riffs'. In the Coldplay piece, clearly it's the melodic centrepiece. How that'll transfer to the suit, I don't know. Given that I can't tell the elbow of music law from the ass of plagiarism I'll follow it.

That is PRREEETTTYYY close! Don't know if it's enough for him to win though. I'd definitely like to know the outcome of it, that's for sure.I-468

No matter if it's stolen or coincidence.- Once I wrote a chorus melody with the hook of The Beatles "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away".I'm pretty sure I would have lost that battle! Go Joe!!!Check it out.

I guess my perspective is warped from all the "sound-alikes" I've done for corporate clients, but the similarities between these pieces seems pretty small to me. I think we could find MANY songs in which at least three notes are alike.Joe could use the money more than Coldplay, though... André

LOL!!! Are you sure that's him?Wade

OK... it's getting a bit complicated now Turns out this is the second charge of plagiarism levelled against Coldplay currently. The weird thing is..... both charges of plagiarism are for the same song.Satch said they ripped off his song for Vida La Vida. And so did New York band Creaky Boards after Chris saw their show in NYC.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eUhFLiw6h ... latedCould Coldplay turn out to be the first band to have simultaneously plagiarised two songs???That was a joke I think

The whole thing seems pretty silly to me. Listen to the whole Satch song and listen to the whole Coldplay song, and yes, there's one similar melody, but they're utterly and completely different otherwise. It seems like a pretty common melody that one would put over those changes, so I'm guessing it's unintentional. This damn litigious society of ours gets annoying sometimes. And for the record, I like certain things from both Satriani and Coldplay...
