The controversy actually dates back to early April, when a sleuthing at-home producer noticed that the song contained stock samples offered by Apple. The finished track was created by high-profile producer Polow da Don.On YouTube, user "Jeff" showed that the defining sound of "Love In This Club" is simply a mixture of two GarageBand stock samples. The sound matches are unmistakable, and serve to undermine the credibility of the producer. In subsequent comments to rap site SOHH, Polow denied that the beats were lifted from GarageBand, though he did allude to another unnamed source. "That's not where I got them from, but they're definitely in there," the producer admitted."

Not really a big deal, and the loops certainly weren't "lifted" in the negative sense of the word as this article makes it out to be. Those loops are put there by apple for this exact purpose. They are completely royalty free and you can use them however you want. I think that it was clever to take something so simple and common and make it into such a huge hit.-Steve

There was a popular Alt. pop song out about 2 years ago that used a loop straight out of Final Cut Express's music beds in the song's guitar lead. I can't remember the name of it now, but it was unmistakable. I recall at the rally 2 years ago one of the hip hop speakers said the biggest difference between many home producers and many pros was the ridiculous price they charged for makin' beats - several hundreds of Gs in some cases. Maybe as the quality of the loops increase and the music we all make at home gets out, the gap will get closer?Just a thought.

Well if the song is anything as good as "Yeah" or anywhere near as popular, who cares where the loops came from. Not everyone is going to be able to take stock material and make it great. It's just like recording or performing gear. Anyone with a credit card can buy the latest greatest stuff even if they don't know how to use it, but a pro will know what to do with a SM-57 and make it sound as good as it can, An amateur won't.So they ripped some beats. How many different ways can you play a backbeat anyway?

Let's see: C Am F G now there's a new concept!! How many ways has that be used (and still is!)?Those beats are in the hands of millions of people just like acoustic guitars are in the hands of millions of people. We must have posted at about the same time gunter! I think in the case of the original thread, since, in the genre in question, the beats and groove are arguably at least as important as the concept/lyrics, the fact that someone made a hit song using "non-proprietary" beats is, to me, the same as someone making a hit song using I, VI, IV V progressions, which can't be copyrighted. My comment wasn't meant to slight the concept of the song in question or your post, only to make a point that it isn't the beats, chords, microphone, compressor, etc., that makes a hit song. Someone else said, how many ways can you play a backbeat, anyway?Cheers!!Mazz
