Following up with Companies

Just got this in my email box.
**************************************************
Hey ,

How are things? Ready for 4th of July or what?! :)

I have a quick question/concern:

I got a call this past Sunday at 7:30 AM by a member of the Taxi community. One of his songs had been forwarded to me and 'wanted to follow up' on it. It's actually not the first time that has happened, but while previous times were during regular working hours, this last time certainly wasn't my ideal way of waking up on a Sunday. :\

This person probably got my contact info from the web, thru his own research skills, but I just wanted to know what type of information Taxi gives out to its members once they submit songs to a listing.

...People need to use some basic common sense when following up on their submissions, contacting labels/publishers/supervisors, and networking in general. Maybe a panel idea for the next Taxi rally! ;)

Take care,
XXXXXXXX

We are now officially about an inch away from letting our members know where their music is being pitched. How are we supposed to keep getting great listings when some of our members do stupid $#!+ that pisses off the people who run those listings??? I'm not happy, and when I find out which member did this, guess who I will personally wake up this Sunday morning at 7:30?

Well, to be blunt: I (respectfully) don't understand why you've waited this long to make this important change.

[joking]: I better update my phone number in my profile...

How disappointing. What is wrong with people!? It truly can't take THAT much common sense to know better. Personally, I really appreciate knowing the company that my music is forwarded to. However, and a BIG however, if it means that Taxi loses a single contact or any future opportunities for us "common sense" abiding members...off with its head.

Sucks, but I guess with the ol' google search nowadays, you have to make sure to cover your ass from the nonprofessionals. That's lame Michael, sorry to hear about that.

Awww man!! Sorry to hear that Michael! Maybe an Etiquette Lesson 101 post is in order ? "What to do and what NOT to do when you get a forward."

Jeez...I would crucify anyone that called me at 7:30 a.m. - on ANY morning!

Cher :)

Michael,
This unprofessional and monumentally idiotic behavior is by no means
indicative of the majority of TAXI members. Some people will sink real low
to advance their personal agenda and their attitude only aids the digging
of their own grave. I get VERY annoyed when their single minded,
misguided efforts affect an entire community.

Those individuals who do not respect the TAXI community, should kindly use the nearest exit.

good luck to them

That really does suck. Through my own research I know the company in question, had a forward to them in April and signed up 3 tracks. It's sad to think that someone else might not get that opportunity because one Taxi user was selfish.

Anyway, what are you doing wasting time doing follow ups that will come to you n the fullness of time anyway? You should be writing another song! WSF.

I can understand why someone would do this.

Times are rough and composers want to make sure they are doing everything they can to make money. But the business is a slow one. The money will come, but it will take a long time. You will not get a check by following up with a music library.

If anyone is that hard up for cash, licensing music is not going to benefit them for at least 5 years. People just have to get a day job and do music in the evenings and weekends. It can be done.

Speechless.

But sadly, when you deal with the public out there, some percentage will be major idiots. :o

Hang in there, Michael! :D Remember, all the good folks out there who appreciate what you do and have at least some amount of common sense.

Best,
 Casey

How much more can be done? Warnings, in big red letters, in the forward notifications aren't getting through? I really don't want access to this vital information to be denied to the members who are responsible and professional enough to be trusted with it. Maybe we need a two-tiered system.

Apparently he'll already be awake. I'd shoot for 3:30, followed by shrill, high frequency aural punishment.
