Hello to all of the members of this site. I am a bit unsure as to where to post this introductoion or the proper forum to discuss this. However, I am Joshua Browne. I am primarily a writer for stage and screen. I wrote a screenplay that involved a storyline of a country boy who rises to the top of country music. To write the story was easy. The hard part was doing something I had never done and that was songwriting.To make a long story short, I finished the project and used 9 of the 30 songs written during the process. I went into a Los Angeles studio 3 years ago to track the music with some pretty well known vocalists who all did a good job. The producer is an amazing talent and guided me through every phase.Now to a general question and direction from this community of songwriters, of whom I admire for your talents. I needed a place to post some of the songs for a friend who was asking about the project. I used an upload site that I had been using as a conduit between me and my agent to track progress of the material for the past 3 years. I would post a song we had demoed and he could access it and then discuss. I would only leave the song up for a day or so and then pull it down. So, for this friend, I posted about 20 songs there a week ago so he could to listen to the tracks. However, I started getting emails from people who apparently found my music and told me how much they liked it. I had no idea that anyone could find the music as it seemed to be a huge site. I did not join or do any promotion because quite frankly it was only being used as a site to direct people to. So as not to be rude I answered each and every email and filled out a small bio explaining the music and crediting all involved.Now, 4 of the songs have risen up their "charts" to as high as #14 in just a few days. Now I don't know exactly what all that means but it has left me dumbfounded. I really appreciate that people like the material, don't get me wrong. It is just that I feel like that janitor who is mopping the stage when the curtain comes up and 5,000 people are staring at him. Sorry for the long story but if anyone in this forum of professionals can help me decipher this I would appreciate it. I found this Taxi site and it appears to be populated with very talented people in this field. This is all virgin territory for me and ANY input would be welcome. I do not know what you professionals go through to get your material recorded but I'm sure it is as tough as getting a screenplay made. Hi Joshua - I guess most people here are very familiar with Soundclick, many of us use it as a place to post music. I myself have had several #1 songs on Soundclick - but the reality is that it doesn't mean anything. It's just a count of listens. I've had number one's on Soundclick even though only 30 people listened to my stuff the day before. Unless you are actually selling units, it doesn't mean a lot to the music industry bigwigs. However, it IS nice that folks like your music and are listening to it. That means there is an audience that appreciates what you are doing, and you can take that to heart, and feel good about it.Taxi is an A & R company, and there are people on this board who are Taxi members, disguntled former Taxi members, skeptical future Taxi members, and folks who aren't Taxi members at all. What happens on this forum doesn't represent Taxi as an organization, it's just a forum for songwriters to talk about music & the music industry.In terms of your post - it came on the heels of several similar posts from newcomers asking for feedback on their music. And there's been a little discussion here about expecting newcomers to not just come and post for review of their music, but actually participate in the boards a little, and write a few reviews of other folks music as well. You posted on May 28th and left, and never came back for two days, haven't participated in any discussions or reviews, and then get mad that you haven't had a response. Well, give us a chance, eh? We're all hardworking songwriters with jobs and families. I try to welcome newcomers but I don't always see every post. You had two days to participate in discussions or give reviews here and raise your profile, but you didn't. Chill out. Hang out and participate for a couple weeks or a couple months and you'll soon be a member of our dysfunctional family.

One asking for us to take the time to (immediately) listen to your music and give written feedback and a second post, less than 48 hours later, angrily announcing your departure forever because our response wasn't fast enough to meet your satisfaction.I'm not sure where the friendly part comes in but patience is something that's surely missing here. I encourage you to hang around and give things a chance to develop. Catching people at the right time to be able to listen and give written critiques is kind of a crap shoot. It's like a restaurant... it's either all busy or not busy at all and nobody here works for Taxi or gets paid to hang around the forum. I know I've seen a bunch of posts similar to your original request all happen within a day or two of each other. When it rains it pours, but it's not personal.Generally if no one responds in a week, reply to your own post to bump it back up to the top of the list. It's a RARE occasion where no one responds to a request the second time around.HTH,Dave

I've only been on here a few months but I've lost count of the people coming on here expecting members of the forum to give full attention to their works.They need to realise that most of us are writers ourselves, and are busy composing our own stuff. We are not here for the service of others. What we do, is out of the kindness of our hearts. There are people that have been doing that on here for 3 years (me not included). However, I do try to chip in every now and again.It's called giving my precious time.If you come to a forum expecting everyone to pay attention to you when you haven't paid much attention to anything they have done, it's no surprise really.It's a bit like having an alcohol problem. Going to an A.A. meeting and expecting all the members to gather round you to help you with your problem. They all have the same problem too you know.A bit selfish really

How many people have you listened to on here Josh?Are you just trying to kiss ass to get us to respond?I had a listen to one of your songs and it seemed very good for the genre of country. If you're genuine then I wish you the best of luck with your project. Perhaps you can have a second career as a songwriter as well.Ease up on the agro though. We're all trying to make it here and there's no point being pushy. Now, I've got a sound check to get to.
