Recent Survey - What Motivates You?

Money! I just sent in my response to Mike's latest survey about motivation. At first I thought: Geez, another survey to waste my time. Then after thinking about it a little longer it dawned on me that if I couldn't answer the survey in 200 words or less then maybe I didn't have as much focus to succeed as I think I do.Mine went basically something like this"What Motivates You?My music is my legacy. It has to be played to be heard so I need to get over being shy about promoting myself. Pleasing the public is the best validation anyone can ever get that their music is good. And that's a pretty darned good feeling.I also checked the box that said I wanted to make my score as a film/TV songwriter.======================I'd be interested in hearing how some of the rest of you guys responded to the survey too.

Hi - I wondered how I'd say it all in 200 characters.... but I managed. What Motivates You?"I want to live the most creative life possible, and be "in the music" every day. I want to be respected as a skilled, professional songwriter and a wonderful singer. I want to make my living from music."I ticked the "film/TV songwriter" although I am also a performing songwriter & self-employed singer/artist/teacher

Groupies... Always wanted to have some... P.S. My wife says if I make a million dollars it's OK... It's a very safe gamble for her!

I don't know that I remember what I wrote word for word but it was something to the effect of:I had my first really good shot at Nashville fame as a songwriter when I was 13. The dream just won't die. I expect that even when I'm dead and buried I'll still be trying to pitch my songs. I've been trying for 36 years....I checked songwriter as my primary desire for success, although I'd like to do some filmTV placement as well. I think if I could be lucky enough to write a song that gets cut and goes to the chart tops that it would springboard the rest of my success as an artist.ArkJack

I don't know what survey you're referring to but -My two teenage boys - I would love for them to see that hard work, determination, and commitment to artistic excellence, integrity, virtuosity, creativity, and innovation still stand for something in this world.Something like that....

What motivates me? I have this unshakable belief that one day I'll be a professional songwriter. In my gut, I just feel that I've written (and co-written with another songwriter) some unique and special stuff. It's a difficult road when you write songs. You have to be willing to accept criticism and use it to better yourself. But at the same time, you have believe in yourself no matter what odds you face. Maybe all of us have had that experience where we hear our songs put to words and music and we feel we have something authentic and worthwhile,. We believe that one day, many other people will hear it as well. I guess I've always been an optimist at heart, (even though I have my pessimistic moments) and that is turn is my daily motivation force.
