Wow, I never expected this: A CD that included my piece "Vermilion River" won best Classical Album at the JPF Awards this past weekend! Here is an excerpt from a press release from ERM Media this morning:"ERMMedia's landmark recording series "Masterworks of the New Era" was recognized this evening with a stunning win in the "BEST CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR" category for it's Volume Two.This marks a radical change in classical music as the CD, which features modern classical music, was up against standard classical CD's like Gerard Schwartz and the London Symphony's recording of Beethoven Symphonies. The prestigious JPF Awards - the world's largest music organization with over 40,000 members world- wide, voted the landmark recording in as top Classical CD of the Year from a field of 9 nominees. ""You like me --- you really, really like me!" Sally Field Ern

Quote:Ern, you said you'd teach me how to do that!HeHehe! When I went to the UCLA film scoring program, I met a guy who heard that I was writing "Sym. No. 1." He asked me what key it was in, and I said "hell if I know!" I'm basically self-taught.To put it another way, I don't know what the f**k I'm doing! I just listen to my muse and let go. NO THINKING! That's the key --- and perserverance.Ern

Congrats Ern.Good deal!Quote:I met a guy who heard that I was writing "Sym. No. 1." He asked me what key it was in, and I said "hell if I know!" If you knew what key it was in it wouldn't be new music reminds me of a teacher I had..."the tonal system has been exhausted..." btw, how do you go about get a classical piece A) recorded by an orchestra and B) place on an award winning CD?Z

Quote:btw, how do you go about get a classical piece A) recorded by an orchestra and B) place on an award winning CD?ZHey Zink,I got an email from the record company : "Call For Scores." It was a competiton of sorts, with composers sending them conductor scores only (no MIDI mockups). A few scores were chosen out of the batch to be recorded over in Europe. Believe me, I was totally surprised that my score was one of them! How this CD was nominated, I don't know. There was probably payola involved. Ern

Cool beans. It's great to see people doing music for music sake. I can't wait to see "An Evening of Ern" at Carnegie Hall! Z
