Hi,Does anyone know of or recommend a good music library directory. Looking for something similar to Songwriter's market, but more directed towards music libraries.Thanks in advance,

Gus, try the "Film And TV Music Guide" by the music business registry : http://www.musicregistry.com/It's not cheap...but it's the best and includes pretty much anything related to film and tv music, not just libraries.If you don't want to spend the money, a thorough google search should turn up a good number of leads.matto

Thanks matto, I actually have the 2004 issue of Film & TV. I was wondering if there was anything else out there. I guess I could always buy this years release, and hope there is enough new listing to justify the cost again.

I doubt there would be that many new or changed listings; music libraries tend to be fairly stable...at least the ones you would want to work with... .So are you saying you've already sent a demo to every company in there? matto

IMO it was better than the Songwriter's Mrket directory, however I'm not looking for publishers as much any more, so I'll rely more on the Film & tv directory.

If you are interested in placing your music in film/tv, don't publishers also do that? I know there are lots of music suppliers for film, for example music supervisors and music libraries. But I thought publishers also actively try to place songs into film/tv. Maybe you can explain it better to me?Nomi

How do you go about submitting to Music Libraries Guscave? Do you just send an email requesting permission or do you also ask what type of stuff they are looking for specifically? Any other tips or info would be helpful.If anyone else has any comments please do chime in!Thanks.

Publishers do help get your music on to film & tv, however if you can do it yourself and keep the publishing... wa- la... In a music conference I attended last year, I was told by 2 tv writers to contact the libraries directly and ask them permission to send a CD sample of your work. Unlike music supervisors, library's seem to have a bit more time to review your CD for either current or future projects. You can do the same with music supervisors, although my personal experience with them is that they prefer to tell you, "hey I need something like this" and you send them music that is as close as possible to what they are asking for. (same thing you do with Taxi.)NEVER send them anything without first asking for permission. If you come across professionally and they listen to your stuff, you might get them to add you to their email list and get leads to new project. I've already been able to do this with 2 music sups. I'm now aiming at libraries.
