Hi, I have a question for fellow UK Taxi members. How long is the take up for US plays to show up on PRS statement. I've got several tracks published with US publishers now (thanks to Taxi) and a few are starting to get used in TV . The only way I know is because the publisher has paid an up front sync fee or two. But still no royalty acknowledgments. I've registered all the tracks with the PRS which I was informed to do by the PRS when I posed the question, how does one receive US royalties when the publisher is only BMI or ASCAP registered?
Any info or experience on this theme would be great fully received.

Hi Tim.

I believe BMI and ASCAP have a system worked out to make sure that royalties get to you through PRS (your PRO). But they need to be aware that you are the writer and who you are affiliated with.

You can check to see if your writer's share and PRS is registered with BMI or ASCAP by using their search feature:

Theses PROs will show non-USA splits if the info has been registered with them.

As far as a timeline, I could conceive of it being as long as nine months if the three entities all work on a quarterly basis. (User ---> USA PRO ---> UK PRO) I'm sure your UK neighbors can shed some better light on that, though.

Edit: I just searched ASCAP and I see that your affiliation is registered properly there with the USA publisher. (and I also see that you and I share a publisher )

that would be great if foreign payments were only 9 months behind. 9 months is usual for domestic.

for foreign stuff add 6 months to a year in my experience.

if you are worried, find the registration for your piece in your PRS account. If it has the right info you can expect to get royalties one of these years - at least you got up front so you know its happening.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Thanks Russell for the links, that's very reassuring to know that at least they are registered now, I guess I just have to wait for the payments to filter through the system.
