Newb questions re forwards to libaries?

Hey guys.
some, perhaps, naive questions about the Taxi forward > library acceptance > deal, process:

OK...so, your track is forwarded to XYZ Media - great :)

What exactly happens now? I assume that does not mean that your track has been officially accepted by XYZ Media? That you will be notified if it is accepted by them, and then receive the contract stuff etc before you officially have it in their library?

And THEN, all going well, you may cut a deal if XYZ Media manage to successfully pitch your music?

Am I on the right track??? :? :)

Really great to get forwards and stuff, but I prefer not to think about any of it until it gets 'real' and just keep pumpin out the tunes...

thanks in advance

Hello Gareth -

You are correct. And it may very well be that XYZ media doesn't get back with you. I have had a number of forwards that went unanswered. Hence, the saying Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat But, after a while, I think publishers will see your name keep popping up and recognize you. This is another great thing about the Rally. You see Mr. BigShot from XYZ Media and you go up and say, "Hello, my name is Toby". He has seen your name come up before.......

But, until you get that deal with XYZ, that song is still available. I usually wait maybe a month or 3 before I shop the forwarded track around. But nothing says you have to do that. If an opportunity comes up for a track that was forwarded, but I haven't heard back? I will submit for the opportunity. If the track gets signed, and then XYZ Media calls to sign the track, you can say something like, "that song has since be licensed, but I would be very happy to send you more just like it."

The best thing you can do is keep writing.

cheers -
kc

Yup Gareth,

Everything up to the point of "we're signing your song" is nice, but keep it in perspective. You can avoid an emotional roller coaster if you ignore all that and just keep writing. At least your stuff is good enough to make it past the blockade. That's probably the hardest part. The rest is just waiting, but you'll die waiting around. Just keep at it. Little by little, libraries and music supes will make contact with you and by then you'll have even more material to offer them. Remember: It's a monster business with massive competition.

Good luck, man!!
:D

Really nothing to be said, in my opinion, other then you were exactly right with your original post. Keep writing and submitting.

If truly a newbie, you might try a system like writing to specific listings and writing a track a week for like a year. Submit all your tracks to Peer To Peer before spending the $5 a track if $20 a month is a stretch. These guys are pretty good at calling it.

Chuck, Peter, KC - thanks very much for that. yeah i'm thinking along the same lines - which is the only way to think really.

Total newb - started putting in stuff last autumn, then after a nice dose of reality, took a break to concentrate on production stuff, which I'm still on I suppose, but encouraged by the few forwards I've had - which came practically exactly the same day as I said to myself "right...I'm wasting my money until my stuff sounds better" - funny :)

as impatient and anxious as I get, I'm satisfied that this is a long-term thing. I'm in a bedding-in period I think, trying to find where my strengths and niches are. I tend to spread the net a bit wide genre wise, which is difficult when trying to become proficient in different production styles. But I feel my strength, eventually, will be in providing something a bit different by melding genres, but still providing something accessible and on target for listings. Who knows...just gotta keep plugging

Digressing...:)

thanks
