I have been working with a music sup for almost a year now on 5 or 6 reality shows my contract is


PUBLISHER SHARE OF PERFORMANCE ROYALTIES: 30% Composer/30% Production Company/30% undisclosed name/10% Administrator

WRITER SHARE OF PERFORMANCE ROYALTIES: 100% to Composer

UPFRONT LICENSING FEES:

MASTERS: 34% to Artist/33% to Production Company/33% undisclosed name

COMPOSITION: 34% to Composer/33% to Production Company/33% undisclosed name

I have been hearing about a dozen cues of mine broadcast on different shows from the start of this year (season) which is AWESOME
THANK YOU TAXI!!!.

Does the music sup's or the production companies cue sheets register those cues with BMI or is that all my responsibility?
In my list of registered works there are zero titles AS OF YET .
BMI website asks for names of all publishers and IPI name #. I don't have that kind of info. or know what it means.

I have signed over 200 cues with them.
They are awesome generous trustworthy people but I am wondering if I will need to painstakingly register every single title
or just be patient and they will show up in due time?

also I wish I could tell skeptics that Taxi works great if you listen to the screener's advice and watch taxi tv and follow the forums

Since the Production Company and that Undisclosed Person and the Administrator are getting 60% of the publishing money AND 66% of the Licensing Fees, it really should be on THEM to register the cues with BMI.... that's what a publisher does. Specially since THEY have all the IP#s for everyone. Maybe you could send them a polite inquiry asking them how they are coming along on registering the songs?

I believe that if BMI gets cue sheets with songs that they don't have registered -as long as your name and your IP# are on the cue sheet- you will see the activity on your account, but from what I understand, the Royalties will not be distributed to you until the songs are registered.
Songs won't become "registered" with the PRO from the info on the cue sheet.

Now if the deal with the Supe were 100% Publishing to you and 100% Writer to you, then the registering would be on you.

Composition = sync in this case

Also I have gotten paid on a number of different occasions via cue sheets in my BMI account even if the songs aren't registered beforehand, and the cue sheet reporting creates a registration for this works.

EDIT: in fact, the commercials I have written that went direct to agency and film scores that I have written where I retained both sides have all shown up on cue sheets. still get paid.

The "composition" split was an unknown to me also. That's a great question and answer.

I sure they are registering the cue sheets.

A few seconds of broadcast time here a few there probably won't add up to much but it will give me an idea how many more years of cue writing and placements until I am breaking even on guitar strings.

I have not a clue what she "the supe" is talking about some times. I don't even know what EDLs are.

She is an sincerely awesome person and I can ask her questions but I think maybe its more appropriate if I get educated through Taxi.
