Hi Everyone,

I've been a member of Taxi for years now and have signed some tunes to music libraries thanks to the site!
However, in other opportunities outside of Taxi, I have recently noticed that the company selecting my music is not offering any type of contract but rather just sending me an email which says " We will contact you when placement comes through". The people behind the listings seem to be "consultants" not libraries. This is new to me and I'm a bit concerned about not really knowing what they are doing with my music especially since no contract has been offered. I want to trust them but ,unfortunately, we know there are sharks out there. The truth is I don't really know if they are getting opportunities for my music or not. Has anyone else heard of this?

I wouldn't trust situations like that. A legit company gives you a contract which outlines terms (unless the 3rd party you submitted through has outlined the terms and you've contractually agreed there). One obvious problem with "We will contact you when placement comes through" is knowing if the deal is exclusive or not. Can you pitch the track elsewhere? What if you wanted to sign an exclusive contract for the song while waiting for them to possibly make a placement? And payment/ownership terms need to be spelled out as well. Fishy.

In the absence of other of other information (such what a 3rd party's terms are), I'd say to not deal with companies like this.

Best
