Hi At the moment I do not have a web site . Do library owners connect with you more, if you have. A web site or does it. Depend on your music or both?

I created my site shortly before last years rally. Having a website is almost a must these days if you want to be perceived as a professional. It could be a basic contact page with a good bio and examples of your work, or it could have more content such as playlists and other items. I think a web site is important to establish credibility, as long as you keep it up to date.

I agree, web sites are great. For one thing, it gives you a stable contact point, so you can use your web email address for your contact info to the libraries, PROs etc. If you put that email address in your pieces' metadata, they'll be able to find you 5 years from now to give you lots of money. It's more professional, I think too, then a @generic address.

While I definitely think having a website is good, I would say it's not as essential as you might think if your a Film/TV songwriter/composer as opposed to an artist looking for a label deal. I know quite a few successful Film/TV composers who don't even have a website or had many years of success before they had one.

I have both a website and a Soundcloud page. I find that way more often, I'm sending out links to my Soundcloud page (either the page as a whole or to a playlist) than pointing people to my website.

If money is tight, you may want to use it to invest in your studio and use Soundcloud (for now) as your website.

Not being negative about a website. Yes, very good to have one. Just saying you CAN make a lot of progress without one if you are pitching Film/TV.

I've been wondering about this myself as well as I let my two websites go a while ago, but recently have seen a couple of composing opportunities where they want a link to your site... and I don't know if soundcloud really would impress. Especially since I keep all my tracks private on my main page lol.

I hear ya... You can create a top 5 on Soundcloud, make them public, and that's what library folks will see when they go there. Or create a playlist and send the library a link to your best in the style(s) they are asking for. What's funny is as impressive as a website can be, often a targeted link to specific songs from SC, is more efficient for their needs.

One thing I DON'T like about using SC is there is no place for a bio. One page with a bio and targeted links is nice.

Sure, but what is a "website".. unless you are a project studio owner and need to build an image from lots of placements, so you can gain tracktion in the market, you can make do with very simple solutions. Like a simple Soundcloud profile to display some work, and a Band profile site on Facebook. It'll take you 10mins to get up, and absolutely free. Then peeps have a place online to reach you, which is the most essential part of having a website.

There was a time when your MySpace music page was your de facto calling card. I remember music peeps would ask for a link to your MySpace page-- that was your website.

And it worked well for the purpose... A bio and some song links all on a single page.

There is a bit of a bio on Soundcloud that shows up with an individual link. But not with a playlist.
