You Tube Monitoring Agreement

Hi Everyone,

I have some songs signed with a non exclusive library that has gotten me a recent placement. This library is signing a new piece of mine, only now they have included an extra little item. They are asking me if it is ok for them to exclusively monitor youtube. I believe they call it a youtube add/rev agreement.
I'm not crazy about exclusive anything. I believe they will still sign the piece even if i say no to this.
Does anyone know what this youtube add/rev stuff is all about and how it works?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam

If someone has added something into a contract that you don't understand, the best thing you can do is ask them what it's driving at.

Best wishes
Matt

Are you going to gain anything from this? Like money?

I can't say I know for sure, but it sounds like they'll monitor user-uploaded youtube versions of your music to help make sure your ad revenue is collected, and I'd imagine it only applies to music you've signed with them. If that's the case, it's a value add and you should probably opt in, but it's better to know than to guess, so ask.
