A Tale of Two Songs

You created an instrumental Cue, submitted it and it got a forward and signed and are now waiting.

Two months go by, you are listening to it in your car and come up with lyrics and a catchy melody to this piece. ( I usually hear ideas in the car)
It sounds different so could you consider this to be Two different songs or pieces and pursue different avenues with the lyric and melodic version

You would most likely extend the bed to around 3+ minutes and it would sound different because of the melody and lyric

I've always wondered about this

I think the answer is "no" but let's see if a more knowledgable passenger will chime in.

I would say no if you signed the instrumental to an exclusive deal. If non-ex and you end up signing the vocal to another non-ex deal then no problem.

What Ethan said.

Keep in mind any library that signs the vocal version is going to require you send the instrumental version as well, which means multiple libraries would be pitching the same instrumental. So as long as everything is non-exclusive, should be totally fine.
