music libraries process

Hi All,
I am curious to know if libraries ever inform the composer if they manage to place a cue.
I signed my first library deal back in april this year, and they asked for more cues, which I have
been delighted to send. I am new to the business side of things, so I'm not quite sure how it works.
I know that the library owners are always very busy, so I'm guessing they just don't have the time
to send out cue sheets for every cue they place, but perhaps a short email maybe.
I would be grateful for any advice.

thank you in advance.

Respect Paul

Very rarely (if ever) do libraries let you know of a placement. Like you said they are too busy. You'll usually find out if your song is placed on a show by your PRO statement or if you have an account with a tracking service like Tunsat.

For backend only placements like many reality TV background cues, you usually don't know until it appears in your PRO statement, 6-9 months after broadcast (18-24 months if international).

A number of libraries that do sync deals (upfront fees) will tell you when there had been a placement.

If you are with ASCAP, you find out sooner because you can view cue sheets online and see when a new cue sheet is filed and that can be many months before your next PRO statement.

Hi Guscave, and Casey,
Thanks for the benefit of your experience. Its as I suspected, they are just too busy, and don't have the time.
I will carry on using the mantra, Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat.

What Casey said - plus I would rather they put their focus on placing more cues, not keeping track of what got placed to notify us :D

Hi Kayle,
I couldn't agree more. More placements not more emails. Thanks for your support.
