Howdy folks,
I am back in Taxi after several years away and I am trying to learn about the business all over again. I had a song placed with a music library 10 years ago. The song is on one of their CDs but I can find no contract or paperwork on it. I have read that when you sign a song with a library that you do not need to register it with your PRO and that they will do it if the song is used. Is this correct?
I looked at my PRO account online and see that I did register it myself in 2007. I also see that it was registered again in 2012 and the publisher is listed as "Excess Writer Clearance" which sounds kind of ominous. There are no royalties associated with it that I can see. Should I just assume it has never been used in 10 years? And...Does Excess Writer Clearance sound like a publisher?
Any help would be appreciated. Also links to any books or articles about the subject might help.

i THINK that Excess Writers Clearance simply means that if there is no publisher involved, then the writer shows up in the field/slot/place the publisher's name would have gone as Excess Writers Clearance.

Maybe when you registered it, it wasn't signed to a publisher yet, and that's why is shows up that way. And yes, you can certainly have a song or track in a catalog that doesn't get used - ever. Not unusual.
