Can you self release through Distrokid BEFORE signing to an exclusive library

Hey everyone,

I've scoured the forums and can't find the exact answer to the question I have. I feel like part of it was covered in the Taxi TV this week but just want to get 100% clarification.

If a listing says that it is for an EXCLUSIVE library, does that mean that that track cannot be distributed online (youtube, spotify, itunes, etc) in any way shape or form? Or that the track can be on Spotify and other online platforms- but cannot be signed in any other libraries/ to a publishing company?

Hypothetically, if I were to release an EP with a track I have submitted for a TAXI listing for an exclusive library through Distrokid WITHOUT ticking the publishing box, would that track still be eligible for that listing? Can that track be on soundcloud/youtube/spotify etc. but not covered under any music synch libraries or any music publishers (so entirely independent) and still be seen as an exclusive track? Or do you need to hold off on releasing it ANYWHERE.

I have an EP I want to put out but one of the songs is down for a listing on TAXI for an exclusive library, so I don't want to burn the opportunity.

Thanks in advance.
Shalee
