Any advice from the pro's out there/ old hats at this game?

How did you start out?

Any equipment software-wise I should not be missing out on for that classic Hollywood-esque orchestral sound (obviously without having the funds/ resources to have a real orchestra at my disposal!)

Currently very much enjoying the Spitfire Audio suite (everything they do I'm a fan of) and starting to bumble my way around East West Hollywood Choirs too.

Overwhelmed by the amount of info you find through forums, articles etc so some straight, genuine (+ helpful!) advice from any long time composers out there would be appreciated!

Pick a genre ( or three )

Listen closely to reference tracks and those within other high quality Libraries. Compare your work honestly or ask for honest feedback. Work systematically on your weaknesses and immerse yourself in current works of your chosen genre (s)

Read the recommended books, follow stuff like Taxi TV and Sync My Music podcasts.

Be prepared to work hard for a good long stretch for very little initial return if any.
