i am confused about the promotion of our music... i read and hear that we should promote our music on a website as well as using platforms like SoundCloud or Spotify so our music can be found by potential clients... Then i will read and hear quite the opposite... Some supes don't want music that has been on any of these platforms... For instance, i may use DistroKid to place music on Spotify... Please let me know what Your practices are or Your understanding... Thanks

the short version is something like this -

if you are creating your music solely for exclusive licensing agreements, do not place them online for steaming.

*after* such music has been signed, ask whoever you are working with if its ok for you to share your music via those channels
