Does a song's copyright include the title?

"Asking for a friend..." :? 8-) (a brother, actually)... who saw/heard Lady Gaga's "Rain On Me". (I don't listen to her stuff, so I have no reference.)
I wrote a song by that title way back in June 1994; but didn't get around to registering the music/lyrics until 2013.
The registration document has it as October 17, 2013.

My reply was - "...you cannot copyright a title." Was that a correct answer?
Just posting this to confirm, for my report back to him.

Thanks.
Peter
PS - it was a funny coincidence he asked about THAT song - cause it's at the top of my list of songs to get the full-Nashville Country treatment - SOON.
Stay tuned for BREAKING NEWS. :? :P

It has been a while since I looked, but I don't think titles or concepts can be copy written. The number of songs called "Forever" or "Summertime" seem to back that up.

Yep. That's what I told him... i.e. Willie Nelson & Cee Lo are both "Crazy". :? :)
