Any tips on getting a phone or e-mail reply from BMI? Are they usually responsive? I have some tracks in the process of being signed and it's hung up because my co-writer can't retrieve his account with BMI, as he hasn't used it in possibly decades.

I am with ASCAP, and my messages usually sit there forever when I contact them. Hoping BMI is at least better.

Sounds obvious, but has he tried searching this database for his composer or artist name? https://repertoire.bmi.com/

Thanks for the link. Nothing shows there as he's never used his account. Just signed up years ago and forgot about it. I know I should have checked on all this before I asked him to co-write...

Ah... he's never interacted, now I understand. Why not have him create a new account since he has no music with BMI?

He was trying to create a new account, but the system said he already had one. Could not be recovered with any old phone numbers or emails, trying different ways. Going to take a real person at BMI to get back to him. The library we are working with is stepping in to trying to speed up the process now, as I think they may have a direct contact there.

They are very helpful, just have your questions and information ready so as to not waste their time!
They don't need "Rock n Roll" or "Relationship" stories... just business, they have a heavy workload.

Busy signal over and over. Finally got through and left a couple messages a week apart. Also emailed. No response. Mostly wondering if anyone had luck reaching a live person and what phone number they may have used if it's a shareable one...

What is the guy’s full name? I bet I can find him! Send me a PM.

I'm with ASCAP but once I got a live person at BMI by calling their different office numbers around the country until I got through.
