Hello,

A library with which I have a song signed on a non-exclusive basis mildly encourages its' writers to upload songs to streaming services, feeling that this only helps to increase the song's chances of being licensed.

Do other libraries encourage this? Is it a good practice to distribute unsigned tracks, as well?

I would say just this: since the library in question is non-exclusive does it really matter what you do with those tunes? If they think that having them out there in several places makes them more licensable, then I suppose one should at least indicate where to go to licence said tunes

As Marco said, since you are going with a non-exclusive, it doesn't matter.

However, it is not uncommon for libraries, exclusive or not, to want you to release to Spotify, etc. and in those cases, it can only be a good thing. Some of their clients like an artist presence associated with the songs they pick.

My experience so far is the majority of all libraries are fine with you releasing to anything that is not associated with sync-- streaming, CD/download sales, artist pitches, in-store airplay, etc. However, if you signed an exclusive, you need to ask the library if it's OK as every deal is different. And if you haven't signed a song yet and intend to pitch to exclusive libraries, you probably should hold off on releasing anywhere until you have a deal and know the terms.

With regards to this, a couple of the exclusive libraries I work with release the tunes on streaming services themselves, so again it all boils down to each individual company

So, is it safe to say that in regard to unsigned tracks, it's a good idea to leave them off of streaming services unless or until they become signed tracks, at which point I would know what that library's wishes are in regard to streaming?

Yes. Unless you are only pitching the tracks to non-exclusive libraries.
