Setting up a Music production library....

Hi,
Have any of you guys set up a music production library , to license your own tracks to clients for tv, web, multi media applications etc? I want to do this but am slightly (okay very!) confused at the collection society relationship. In the first instance, I think I need to register all tracks with PRS/MCPS? UK based btw. But then, do I stipulate to the licensor that they forward cue sheet information to the society? Also, am I tied into MCPS/PRS rate cards?

Any advice gratefully received at this early stage.

Wishing you all peace & prosperity for 2010!

my 2 cents:

the whole business-side of production music is a sience and (at least) a 100% job itself.

so if I was you I'd ask myself "what do I want to do with my time?"

if the answer's "writing & producing music", then I'd rather suggest to license your tracks to established publishers/libraries instead of trying to build your own publishing company.

cheers,
martin
