Registering Copyright versus Phonorecord?

I've been copyrighting my work for years ... but there's also a Phonorecord type of copyright to protect your recording of a composition. You'll see most commercial CD's have both symbols on the back (circle C for copyright, and circle P for phonorecord).

So my question - if I'm producing finished recordings (mostly original, sometimes a cover version) for use in film / tv, or libraries ... should I be registering my works as phonorecords in addition to the copyright?

Thanks! Jim

I always copyright using Form SR. It is my understanding that that covers both the copyright of the song (circle c) and also the sound recording (circle p).
