So actually, even though cubase 32 might not be able to benefit from more than 4 gigs of ram, the 64 bit OS will be using more than 4 and running much more smoothly and easily. Would that be correct?

I just looked at your first post and your system. Why the heck are you running xp? How did you even get XP when you have core i7?

I have the same board and processor. I run W7 64 6 GIgs Ram using cubase 32 bit. If you have memory problems with that system then you need to bounce tracks down or something. Why people think they need to leave all their VSTis open all the way through a project is weird to me. It just means you are not confident in your composition yet.

But like I said you can put both Cubase 32 and 64 on your computer at the same time. If you have a project where all of your programs are 64 bit then you can use it. The only reason I do not use cubase 64 is because i use powercore and it is not 64 bit yet. But there are projects that i dont need it so I will start using cubase 64 again.

Look Matto...he is the best here and he still uses and older system. So why do we think we need so much power any way?

Yes Jonathan! You've more or less got it! At least in theory. The OS should allow the 32 bit DAW to use extended RAM. Thats the way it works on my Mac, but I don't have a W7 machine to find out for myself. I don't really plan on buying one to find out. Having made the change to Mac I have no intentions of going back.

The problem MAY be when you upgrade Cubase to a 64 bit application but you still have 32 bit VSTs. The DAW MAY not be able to recognize the older VSTs. This IS exactly the case with Logic on a Mac in 64 bit mode and some VSTs. The DAW LOGIC can be run in 32 or 64 bit mode. Mac allows you to run the DAW either way so that there is a work around the problem. I'm not sure W7 will allow this or not. The REAL FIX is when the VST mfg gets up to speed with a real 64bit application.

Sort of a transition period for us all to work through. I'm just interested in what problems occur and hoping there are none.
